I am looking for a pattern I learned in the 1970s. It was worked in horizontal rows in multiples of 10s. After ? number of stitches you dropped the hook down to the row below and worked the next stitch through that stitch. Worked up it looked a little like the "spikes" of an EKG. Any ideas?

I believe that is called a teardrop pattern. I may have a book with this pattern. If you are interested, I can send you a copy of a pattern. It does not use multiple strands or a Q hook.

I'm not so sure about the pattern itself, but the stitch is called a spike stitch. It is normally worked with two rows of dc and then a row of sc. The sc row is where you drop down to the row below in whatever multiples you are working in, pulling a loop up to the current row and making a sc. I hope this helps.

Perhaps you're referring to a stitch that had you wrap the needle around the spoke of a double or triple crochet from the previous row. This gave a "raised" effect for that particular stitch. On future rows, the same type of stitch could be worked around adjacent stitches on both sides of the "raised" stitch, leaving the one directly above it regular. Repeating this with future rows would create a V pattern. Another option was to wrap the needle around the post of a previous row for two or three stitches from front to back and then do two or three stitches from back to front, creating a basket weave pattern or striped pattern depending how you started when you flipped the afghan to do the next row.

I remember this pattern well. Also made one for every member of my family. You will need a "Q" hook and about 59oz of any worsted weight yarn. Entire afghan is worked holding 3 strands together..each square is 8". Make 35 squares. Each square should only have 3 rows in "traditiional granny" style in double crochet (dc). Assemble 5 strips of 7 squares each, with WRONG sides together, working through inside loops only, join in corner space, ch 1 slst in next dc, ch 1 across to next corner. Fasten off. Work this way until all 7 squares are together. Then repeat the same way for putting the strips together. The edging is up to your likes. I used different styles for each one so the girls wouldn't fight. Finished size about 48" x 66". Hope this is helpful. Maybe not quite like yours, but close.

I've been searching for years for a pattern I originally crocheted for my Mom. It works with 4 skeins of yarn all at once and makes huge granny squares, using a huge hook. I used an off-white. I followed the pattern from a book of afghans but the book but it was lost in a move. Has anyone heard of such a pattern? I really want to make it again for my family. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I just saw your post about the 4 skeins of yarn Granny square, it's called the Spiral Granny Squrare, and I'm having a lot of fun making lots of small squares and sewing them together for 1 large afghan. I hope this helps.
