Twisted Cable Afghan

Basket Weave Panel (2):
With A ch 24.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hk and ea ch across (22 dc).
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, (dcfp in 4 sts, dcbp in 4 sts) 2 times, dcfp in 4 sts, dc in top of last st.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, (dcbp in 4 sts, dcfp in 4 sts) 2 times, dcbp in 4 sts dc in top of ch 3.
Rows 4 & 5: Repeat Row 2.
Row 6: Repeat Row 3.
Row 7: Repeat Row 2.
Rows 8 - 127: Repeat rows 2-7, at end cut yarn, finish off.
Twisted Cable Panel (2):
With A, ch 28.
Row 1: Dc in 4th sc from hk and ea ch across (26 dc).
Row 2: Ch 3, turn, (trfp in 3 sts, sk 2 sts, trbp in 2 sts, trbp in the 2 sts just skipped) repeat ( to ) 3 times, trfp in 3 sts, dc in last st.
Row 3: Ch 3, turn, (trbp in 3 sts, sk 2 sts, trfp in 2 sts, trfp in 2 skp'd sts) 3 times, trbp in 3 sts, dc in last st.
Rows 4-85: Repeat Rows 2-3, at end cut yarn, finish off.

With A, ch 97.
Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hk, (counts as 1 dc), dc in next st, * sk 3 ch, 3 dc in next ch, ch 3, 3 dc in 2nd ch of 3 ch just skp'd working over the last 3 dc made (woven shell made), sk 1 ch, dc in next ch; rep from * to last 2 sts, dc in last 2 sts, turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in next dc, 3 dc in next st, sc in ch 3 sp, * sk 3 dc and next dc, 3 dc in 2nd of next 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc in 2nd of 3 dc just skp'd working over the last 3 dc made (woven shell made), sc in ch 3 sp; rep from * to last 3 sts, dc in next st, dc in last 2 sts, turn.

Joining Panels
Cable Panel: With A join with sc in corner st, 2 sc in same pl, 3 sc in each row up side of panel, 255 sc, cut yarn and repeat for other side.
Basket Weave Panel: With A join with sc in corner st, 2 sc in same pl, 2 sc in each row up side of panel, 255 sc, cut yarn and repeat for other side.
Woven Shell Panel: With A join with sc in corner st, 2 sc in same pl, work 255 sc up each side of panel (3 sc in each row, 4 sc in ea 21st row). With B, join with sc in corner st, * ch 8, sk 1 st, sc in next st; rep from * up each side of ea panel, at end cut yarn, finish off. Holding one basket weave panel and one twisted cable panel tog, using the crochet hook, weave the ch 8 loops through each other, alternating from one panel to the next, join the other panels in a similar fashion referring to photo.
End Diamond Panels
With A work 207 sc sts across each end of afghan, catching and securing the end ch 8 loop used to join the panels together.
Row 1: Ch 3, (counts as 1 dc), sk first st, 1 dc in ea st to end, turn, cut A, join B.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, * sc in 3 sts, trfp 2 tog over next st inserting the hk around the 2nd sc in sc row just below for first leg and around the following 4th sc for 2nd leg (skipping 3 sc between); rep from * across ending with sc in last 3 sts, cut B, join A.
Row 3: Repeat Row 1.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, * trfp over next st inserting hk around the top of first raised cluster 2 rows below, sc in 3 sts, trfp 2 tog over next st inserting hk around the same cluster as last raised st for first leg and around top of next raised cluster for 2nd leg; rep from * sc in last st, cut B, join A.
Rows 5-11: Repeat Rows 1-4, and 1-3.The above is a diagram of the diamond pattern. The first diamond legs represented by the diagonal lines are working around the front post of the sc sts below, after that the legs are working around the junction of the legs from the previous rows.
Border
Row 1: With A, join with sc in corner st, 2 sc in same pl, sc around entire afghan having 210 sc across ends and 294 sc up sides and 3 sc in ea corner, join with sl st in beg sc.
Row 2: Sc in same st as joining, * sk 3 sc, 3 dc in next st, ch 1, 3 dc in 2nd of 3 sc just skp'd, working over the first 3 dc, sk 1 st, sc in next (this is a slight variation of the previous woven shell stitch); rep from * around join with sl st in beg sc, cut and rejoin in center st of 3 sc in one corner.
Row 3: Ch 4, 5 tr in same st, sc in ch 1 sp of previous row, sk 3 dc, work a shell st between shell sts of previous row, 6 tr in ea corner st, join with sl st in top of beg ch 4, cut and finish off ends.
