Jennifer Lippman-Bruno doesn’t just create things out of yarn, she communicates with each and every skein. An aspiring designer since childhood, Jennifer took a bold leap into the design world by giving up her studies in Pre-Med to study jewelry design. After graduating, Jennifer soon became the design director for Angela Cummings Fine Jewelry. Even though Jennifer was working with the very best in this field, another medium was calling.
Jennifer’s communication with her materials is born out of her fluid and organic approach to design, something she calls “three-dimensional design.” “I don’t go into a yarn store with a definite idea. First, I fall in love with the yarn, and then it determines what it will become. The ideas go straight from my head to my hands.” This unique approach leads to equally unique designs. Whether it’s one of her ultra-feminine halters or a chic shrug, her patterns, which she describes as “conservative with a twist”, are incredibly wearable and very modern.
Jennifer’s fearless use of color is also a hugely important part of her line. She describes her palette as “a blending of the unexpected.” By combining colors that aren’t traditionally seen together, she creates tonal harmonies that are distinctly her own. This philosophy even extends to her designs for babies. No traditional pastels here, instead Jennifer takes a different tack by blending rich, warm hues that somehow seem more nurturing and inviting than the pale colors we have come to associate with infants.
The GoKnit® Line was born out of necessity. In 2004 during a flight home for the holidays, she became completely frustrated when her in-flight knitting became complicated by a run-away ball of yarn. “I was getting really grumpy because the yarn kept falling on the floor and rolling all over the place.” By New Year’s Eve Jennifer had come up with the plans for the GoKnit® Pouch, an ingenious bag that allows you to take your knitting wherever you go with no fear of knots or near escapes. Since then several other products have been introduced – GoKnit Zips, GoKnit Capsules and all the GoKnit Patterns.
