Instructions:
Note: Afghan is worked using 2 strands of yarn throughout. Join rounds with a slip st in stitch indicated.
Square – Make 48, 12 in each color
Using a double strand of appropriate color, chain 4; join with a slip st to form a ring.
Round 1 (RS): Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), work 15 dc in ring, join in top of beginning ch—16 dc.
Round 2: Ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1) * dc in next dc, ch 1; repeat from * around, join in third ch of beginning ch-4.
Round 3: Slip st in first ch-1 space, ch 3, work [dc, ch 2, 2 dc] in same space (first corner shell made), ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, * work shell in next ch-1 space, ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, sc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, hdc in next ch-1 space, ch 1; repeat from * around, join to first dc.

Assembly: Referring to diagram, lay squares on a flat surface. Using yarn needle and a double strand of yarn, join completed squares into 6 strips of 8, then join strips together as follows: With RS's together, working in back loops only, join pieces using whipstitch.
Border:
With RS facing, join a double strand of D with a slip st in any corner ch-2 space.
Round 1: Ch 1, work 3 sc in same st, * sc in next 14 sts, [sc between squares, sc in next 14 sts] across to next corner, work 3 sc in corner; repeat from * 2 times, sc in next 14 sts [sc between squares, sc in next 14 sts] to beginning, join to first sc.
Round 2: Ch 2, working in back loops only, hdc in each sc around, join in second ch of beginning ch-2.
Fasten off. Using yarn needle, weave in remaining ends.
