Stadium Crochet Lapghan

Crochet HookJ/10 or 6 mm hook
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
Materials:
- RED HEART® Team Spirit™: 7 skeins of 947 Royal/White
- Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 6mm [US J-10]
- Yarn needle
Gauge: 10 sts = 4” (10 cm); 8½ rows = 4” (10 cm) in half double crochet (hdc). One Basic Square measures about 10 x 10” (25.5 x 25.5 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Lapghan measures 40 x 40” (101.5 x 101.5 cm) before edging; 42 x 42” (106.5 x 106.5 cm) with edging.
Notes:
1. Lapghan is made from 16 Basic Squares.
2. Each Square is worked in half double crochet, back and forth in rows, then an edging is worked all the way around the outer edge of the Square.
3. Squares are arranged as shown in Assembly Diagram and sewn together.
4. An edging is worked all the way around the outer edge of the entire Lapghan.
Instructions:
BASIC SQUARE (make 16)
Ch 27.
Row 1 (right side): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch do not count as a st) and in each ch across—25 hdc.
Rows 2–21: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in each st across.
Square Edging Round: Do not turn, work 23 sc evenly spaced across side edge of Square; working across opposite side of foundation ch, 3 sc in first ch (corner made), sc in next 23 ch, 3 sc in last ch (corner ade); work 23 sc evenly spaced across side edge; working in sts across top of Square, 3 sc in first st (corner made), sc in next 23 sts, 3 sc in last st (corner made); join with slip st in first sc—104 sc (25 sc across each edge between center sc of corners).
FINISHING
Arrange Squares into 4 rows of 4 Squares, alternating vertical and horizontal striping as shown in photo and Assembly Diagram, and sew Squares together.
Edging
Round 1 (right side): With right side facing, join yarn with sc anywhere in edge of Lapghan, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc corner; join with slip st in first sc.
Round 2 (wrong side): Ch 1, turn, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc corner; join with slip st in first sc.
Round 3 (wrong side): Ch 1, do not turn, sc in each st around, working 3 sc in center sc of each 3-sc corner; join with slip st in first sc.
Fasten off.
Weave in ends.
