I am sorry but I am a little confused. The 'Ring Around The New Year Square' is lovely, but is it meant to be part of a bigger pattern? Or is it just an example of a square that you designed? And I am curious about the name you chose. What is the meaning of it? I am a bit new to the crochet communities, and I am just coming from a place of awe and desire to learn more.

Hi there! This pattern is a pretty example of a granny square. Usually, crocheters hook many of them and then join them together to create afghans of varying styles and sizes. That said, granny squares are very versatile and you can incorporate them into a variety of crochet projects, from pillowcases to placemats. Also, if you'd like to know more about the designer's intent with this particular pattern, you can click on the "Click here for pattern" link above that will take you to her site. Then you can email her to ask her about the name and any other questions you may have. I hope this helps, and welcome to the wonderful world of crochet! Happy hookin'!
