Crochet Pansy Afghan

- 4 skeins No. 0330 Linen CB
- 2 skeins No. 0633 Dark Sage CC
- 1 skein No. 0356 Amethyst CD

- 1 skein No. 0320 Cornmeal CF
- Crochet hook: 6mm [US J-1].
- Yarn needle
Gauge: Hexagon measures 9 1/2" across; 10 1/2" from point to point. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Note: Hexagons are made first, then leaves, then pansies. Leaves are sewn on top of hexagons, pansies are sewn on top of leaves, then hexagons are sewn together.
To change color in dc: Work last dc before color change until there are 2 lps left on the hook, drop color in use, with new color yarn over and draw through 2 lps on hook. Continue with the new color. Carry other color at back of work until needed, catching strands into back as sts are worked.
HEXAGON (Make 53): With CA, ch 4; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, dc in ring, [ch 2, 2 dc in ring] 5 times, ch 2; join with a sl st in top of ch-3.
Rnd 2: Sl st to ch-2 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all in same sp, [ch 1, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all in next ch-2 sp] 5 times, ch 1; join.
Rnd 3: Sl st to ch-2 sp, ch 3, (dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all in same sp changing to CB in last dc, * ch 1, dc in ch-1 sp changing to CA, ch 1 **, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) all in next ch-2 sp changing to CB in last dc; rep from * around, end at ** with CA; join.

Fasten off. There are 9 CB dc between CA corners.
LEAVES (Make 53): With CC, ch 4; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, 16 sc in ring; join with a sl st in first sc.
Rnd 2: * Ch 7, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, tr in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sl st in next 2 sc; rep from * around. Fasten off. Sew leaf piece to center of each hexagon.
PANSY (Make 53): With CD, ch 3; join with a sl st to form a ring.
Rnd 1: [Ch 3, 2 dc in ring, ch 3, sc in ring] 3 times; do NOT join. Fasten off.
Rnd 2: Attach CE in ring just beyond last sc; [ch 4, 3 tr in ring, ch 4, sl st into ring] twice, * ch 4, [3 dc in next dc] twice, ch 4, sl st in sc; rep from * twice more.
Rnd 3: * Sl st to first ch of ch-4, ch 1, sc in same ch, [ch 2, sc in next ch] 3 times, [ch 2, sl st into back lp of next tr] 3 times, [ch 2, sc in next ch] 3 times, sl st into last ch; rep from * once more. Fasten off.
Make 4 straight stitches along center 2-color petal with CF and tapestry needle as per photo.
Sew Pansies on top of leaves. Sew hexagons together in 4 strips of 8 motifs and 3 strips of 7 motifs. Sew strips together.
Edging: With right side facing, attach CB in any CB dc; ch 2, hdc around entire afghan, working 3 hdc in each corner point; join with a sl st in top of ch-2. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Rating it 4 for the color combination which I find it drab but finally 5 for the free pattern which is found just right on this page. Thanks for the free pattern which is clearly presented together with a photo of a crocheted pansy flower. I always rate 5 for clear patterns for what's the use of the beautiful photo when crocheters have difficultly following the pattern. Thanks again.

Photo is too small on the Pansy Afghan. You can't see the flower or pattern decently
