Happy Harlequin Crochet Afghan

We here at AllFreeCrochetAfghanPatterns see a LOT of afghan patterns, but the Happy Harlequin Crochet Afghan definitely sticks out as a favorite in our minds. It incorporates all of our favorite crochet afghan pattern traits into one easy pattern: it's easy to make, it's full of texture and color, and you can use up the yarn in your yarn stash.

First, let's talk construction. This is a join-as-you-go crochet afghan pattern, but you can work up the center of each of the little granny square bits separately and then work on joining everything together in the final round, in another color. The portability of any blanket pattern is key because this way you'll be able to work on it in more places and in shorter bursts.

Then, we have the pattern itself and the joining round, which adds some fun texture and interest to an already fun pattern, plus the striped ripple border, because why not add another stitch pattern to the mix? 

Our favorite part of this crochet afghan pattern, though, is the room for color exploration. Because there are so many little parts to this pattern (the center of each granny square part, the outer rim of the squares/the joining round and the final striped ripple border), you can go as crazy with color as you want.
