Darn Good Yarn is on a mission to create a job market for highly impoverished women so they can become independent. When you buy a skein, your purchase directly supports these women, and I'll tell you, the yarn that Darn Good Yarn has to offer is certainly one of a kind and comes in a variety of recycled yarn products from India.
Velvet Nights is a type of yarn you wouldn't run to in the yarn aisle. At first touch, it actually reminds me of a pair of jeans for some reason; it's a bit rough, yet soft and smooth at the same time. It's a lush play on velvet, but you certainly wouldn't see it as a velvet suit. Each skein is 100g and contains 65 yards. You can machine wash your project on the delicate cycle using cold water, but it is not recommended that you machine dry. Lay your items flat to dry or you can even send them to the dry cleaner.
This yarn is great to work up for crochet patterns. I know your first thought isn't to work up a crochet afghan with a velvet-type yarn, but it might actually be pretty nice. As I mentioned earlier, it's soft and would feel cozy as you wrap yourself up in it. It comes in a variety of colors, too.
The next time you want to try a different yarn brand or perhaps the next time you think about making a difference in the world, then head on over to Darn Good Yarn; they're doing good things over there and the yarn is exquisite.
