If you've seen one baby blanket, you've seen them all...or so you thought. Leisure Arts brings a fresh round of patterns to the table in Terrific-to-Touch Baby Afghans. In this book there are seven different patterns for baby blankets, all gorgeous and perfect for any of your expecting friends or relatives. These blankets are sure to be cherished for a lifetime, and these patterns are the perfect place to begin thinking of ideas.
My favorite patterns are on page 11 and page 26. Page 11 holds the Rainbow Splash Blanket, a mainly white blanket with pops of pretty rainbow colors. This will make any nursery look gorgeous, and is perfect to hang over a crib, on a rocking chair, or to snuggle into with your baby. Page 26's pattern is the ABC Blanket. This blanket is worked up in a minty green color, perfect for a boy or for a girl, and uses the bobble stich to create a 3D alphabet. Full of cool texture, this blanket is perfect for any baby to learn to crawl on, and would look great hung on a wall if the alphabet was in a contrasting color.
While I would recommend a base knowledge of crochet before diving into these patterns, there is a helpful "General Instructions" section at the end of the book. This houses explanations for common crochet stitches, yarn weights, crochet hooks, terminology, and a guide to their difficulty ranking system. While these patterns are all ranked for "Easy" and above, this book would be fun for beginners to pick up and find inspiration for their own patterns, or to hold on to until they are ready to have a go at one of the gorgeous baby blankets inside.
