Star Crossing Crochet Blanket Pattern

- Hook: Sizes U.S. I/9 (5.5 mm) and U.S. G/6 (4 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge
Size: Approx 54” [137 cm] square
Gauge: 12 dc and 6 rows = 4” [10 cm] with larger hook

Note: Ch 3 at beg of rnd counts as dc throughout.
Solid Motif
(Make 24) **With A and larger hook, ch 4. Join with sl st to first ch to form a ring.
1st rnd: Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 3). (3 dc in ring. Ch 2) 3 times. 2 dc in ring. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 5.
2nd rnd: Sl st in next ch-2 sp. Ch 3. (1 dc.Ch 3. 2 dc) in same ch-2 sp. *1 dc in each of next 3 dc. (2 dc. Ch 3. 2 dc) in next ch-2sp. Rep from * twice more. 1 dc in each of next 3 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
3rd rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in next dc. *(2 dc. Ch 3.2 sc) in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 7 dc. Rep from * twice more. (2 dc. Ch 3.2 dc) in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 5 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.**
4th rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 3 dc.*(2 dc. Ch 3. 2 sc) in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 11 dc. Rep from * twice more. (2 dc. Ch 3. 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp.1 dc in each of next 7 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
5th rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in each of next 5 dc.*(2 dc. Ch 3. 2 sc) in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 15 dc. Rep from * twice more. (2 dc. Ch 3. 2 dc) in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 9 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off.
2 Color Motif
(Make 16 with A as Color1 and B as Color 2; make 9 with B as Color1 and A as Color 2) With Color 1, work from ** to ** as given for Solid Motif. Fasten off.
4th rnd: Join Color 2 with sl st to any ch-3 sp. Ch 3. (1 dc. Ch 3. 2 dc) in same sp.*1 dc in each of next 11 dc. (2 dc. Ch 3.2 dc) in next ch-3 sp. Rep from * twice more. 1 dc in each of next 11 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3.
5th rnd: Ch 3. 1 dc in next dc. *(2 dc. Ch 3.2 sc) in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 15 dc. Rep from * twice more. (2 dc. Ch 3.2 dc) in next ch-3 sp. 1 dc in each of next 13 dc. Join with sl st to top of ch 3. Fasten off.
Stars
(Make 16). With C and smaller hook, ch 4.
1st rnd: [2 dc. (Ch 1. 3 dc) 4 times. Ch 1] all in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st to 3rd ch of ch 4.
2nd rnd: *Ch 5. 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 hdc in next ch. 1 dc in next ch. 1 tr in next ch. Sl st in next ch-1 sp. Rep from *4 times more. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Sew Motifs tog as shown in Diagram. Sew Stars in position as shown in Diagram.
Edging
1st rnd: (RS). With larger hook, Join B with sl st to any corner ch-3 sp of Afghan. Ch 1. Work 3 sc in same sp as last sl st. Work sc evenly around outer Edge of Blanket, working 3 sc in each corner. Join with sl st to first sc.
2nd rnd: Ch 1.Working from left to right, instead of from right to left, as usual, work 1 reverse sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Wowza! Wowza! Wowza! This Star Crossing Crochet Blanket pattern in awesome! It's not exactly my color scheme...a little too much white for my taste. I think I'll recreate it in an Americana folk look with gold stars and red, white and blue. I'll need to work it out. Maybe gold stars and blue background around them. Then figuring out the rest of it with red and white. It would be the perfect gift for VA hospital patients or friends who've served in the military.

This is so cute and the designer didn't lie, it's very easy to make. I am thinking of doing it in dark blue with the white stars for my 7 year old grand son. He got a telescope for Christmas and has been space minded ever since. Thanks for sharing this one.
